The Center for Development of the Vardar Planning Region functions as an expert administrative body of the Council for Development of the Vardar Planning Region. Pursuant to the territorial division of the Republic of Macedonia into eight planning regions and the provisions of the Law on Balanced Regional Development for establishing a technical body for regional development service in the Vardar planning region, the Center for Development of the Vardar planning region is based in Veles as the municipality with the largest number of inhabitants.
Pursuant to the Law on Balanced Regional Development, the Center for Development of the Planning Region performs the following activities:
- prepares the draft program for development of the planning region,
- prepares a draft-action plan for implementation of the Program for development of the planning region,
- prepares project proposals for the development of the planning region and the areas with specific development needs,
- coordinates the activities related to the implementation of the Program for development of the planning region and realizes the projects for development of the planning region,
- provides information to stakeholders on the course of implementation of the Program for development of the planning region and other issues related to regional development,
- provides expert and technical assistance to local self-government units in preparing their development programs,
- provides professional services to citizens’ associations and other stakeholders for preparation of projects in the field of regional development,
- encourages inter-municipal cooperation in the framework of planned development,
- implements projects to encourage the development of the planning region, financed by European Union funds and other international sources,
- promotes the development opportunities of the planning region and
- performs professional and administrative-technical work for the needs of the council for development of the planning region.
Goals and priorities
The determination of the goals and priorities in the Vardar planning region and the definition of the Vision is prepared on the basis of strategic analysis and diagnosis of the situation in the region.
- Increasing the competitiveness of the region and providing a qualified and educated workforce according to the needs of the economy
- Development of transit, sustainable and cultural tourism
- Improving the infrastructure and energy potentials in the region
- Providing conditions for improving the environment in the region
- Creating regionally sustainable agriculture and sustainable rural development
- Developing an effective value-based education system that will be widely available and able to prepare users for life challenges
